About Maa
The Thai language app for people who already love Thailand.
Built by a solo Thai dev. For BL/GL fans, digital nomads, and heritage learners who got tired of pretending textbook Thai is real Thai.
Why Maa exists
Every Thai-learning app teaches the same line: “ฉันต้องการซื้อน้ำ”(“I require to purchase water”). Real Thais say “เอาน้ำขวดนึง” — and they say it fast.
You can watch BL series for years. Sing along to T-Pop. Have a Thai partner. And still freeze at 7-Eleven because nobody taught you the actual phrases your favorite show or song uses.
Maa fixes that. Every lesson is built around a real cultural moment, a real meme, or a real conversation pattern Thais use today — with cultural context locals know but tourists never get told.
How Maa is different
- ✓
Real culture, not actors
Lessons draw from the BL/GL world, T-Pop lyrics, and viral Thai Twitter memes — the language Thai people use when no one's writing a textbook.
- ✓
AI tone trainer
Whisper transcribes you, Claude grades each tone. You see exactly which syllable is off — not just “wrong, try again.”
- ✓
$4.99/mo — built to stay cheap
Prompt caching + smart bucket TTS cuts AI cost ~95%. We pass the savings on.
- ✓
No streak shame
Streak Freeze on Pro. Daily Meme on free. We want you back tomorrow; not desperate.
- ✓
Built by a Thai person
Cultural notes that actually capture nuance — written by someone who grew up texting these phrases.
Note from the founder
Hi — I'm a Thai developer building Maa from Bangkok.
I started this because watching my non-Thai friends struggle with apps that taught them “respectful uncle” vocabulary instead of “ใจสลาย” drove me a little crazy. They wanted to chat with their Thai bias on Twitter, not order goat curry in 1920.
Maa is small, solo, and proudly unfinished — I add lessons weekly, fix things you flag, and read every email reply. If you bought a coffee for $4.99, you'd expect to taste it. Same energy here.
Reply to any Maa email. I read all of them. 🐎

Who Maa is for
BL/GL fans
You ship Thai BL couples. You decode BL series Twitter threads. Maa teaches what they actually say.
Digital nomads
You've been in Bangkok 6 months and still point at menus. Maa gets you talking like a local in two weeks.
Thai diaspora
You understand grandma but can't reply. Maa rebuilds the language without making you start at “hello.”
Under the hood
Maa runs on Next.js 16 + Supabase + Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4.6 + OpenAI Whisper. Audio cached on Supabase Storage CDN. Pay with Stripe or Thai PromptPay via Omise. Open about every choice — ask me anything.
