Terms of Service

1. Quick summary

You can use Maa if you're 13 or older, your account is for you (don't share logins), don't abuse our AI to flood the system, pay if you go Pro, and cancel anytime. We can update these terms; we'll tell you when we do.

2. Who can use Maa

You need to be at least 13 years old. If you're under 18, you confirm a parent or guardian agrees with these terms on your behalf. Maa is a Thai-language learning service open globally; you're responsible for following the laws of where you are.

3. Your account

One human, one account. Don't share login credentials or sell access to your account. Keep your email login secure — Maa uses email magic links / Google sign-in, so anyone with access to your email can access Maa.

You can delete your account anytime by emailing hi@maa.app. Deletion is permanent within 30 days.

4. The service

Maa teaches Thai through real cultural references — BL/GL series, T-Pop, memes, daily-life phrases. Lessons combine text, audio, optional video clips, and an AI tone trainer.

We work hard to keep Maa available, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service. If our AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic) go down, the tone trainer may temporarily not work. We'll do our best to restore quickly.

5. Subscriptions + payments

Free tier: 7 starter lessons + Daily Memes + Daily Challenge + 50 AI mic-checks/day, free forever. New free lessons added regularly.

Pro tier: US$4.99/month or US$49/year (~18% off). Thai PromptPay supported via Omise (THB equivalent). Recurring auto-renewal until canceled.

Free trial: First Pro subscription includes a 7-day free trial. Cancel before it ends; no charge.

Refunds: 7-day full refund, no questions, within the first 7 days of any new paid period. Email us to request. After 7 days, we don't prorate but you can cancel renewal anytime.

Price changes: We may change pricing for new sign-ups. Existing paying users won't see surprise price hikes mid-cycle; we'll email at least 30 days before any renewal increase.

6. AI usage + fair use

Maa's AI tone trainer sends your voice recording to OpenAI Whisper for transcription and Anthropic Claude for tone scoring. Audio is stored for up to 30 days on Supabase Storage to help improve our models, then auto-deleted.

Don't abuse the AI — automated scripts, spam recordings, or attempting to bypass rate limits will result in your account being suspended. Free tier is capped at 50 mic-checks per day per user.

7. Content + intellectual property

What we own: Maa's app code, brand, lesson text, cultural notes, AI scoring system, mascot, and all original sketches are owned by Maa. Don't copy our content for commercial use without permission.

References to third parties: Lessons may reference public works (BL/GL series titles, T-Pop song titles, public memes). These references are educational commentary under fair-use principles. Trademarks and copyrights of the underlying works belong to their respective owners. We don't claim affiliation with shows, artists, or studios unless explicitly stated.

Your content: Audio you record stays yours. You grant us a limited license to process it through our AI providers to give you a tone score. We don't publish your recordings.

8. Prohibited use

• Don't use Maa to harass, defame, or violate anyone's rights.
• Don't reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically copy our content.
• Don't share illegal, hateful, or sexually explicit material via our recording feature.
• Don't share your account with multiple people to bypass Pro pricing.
• Don't attempt to break our security or interfere with other users.

Violation = we can suspend or terminate your account without notice. We'll refund unused paid time on a good-faith basis.

9. Termination

You can cancel anytime from Settings → Manage subscription, or by emailing us. We can suspend accounts for violating these terms. On termination, your data is retained for 30 days for possible recovery, then permanently deleted.

10. Disclaimers + liability

Maa is provided “as is.” We don't guarantee that using Maa will make you fluent in Thai, get you a Thai boyfriend/girlfriend, or unlock perfect KinnPorsche cosplay. Language learning is on you; we just provide tools.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Maa's total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid in the previous 12 months (so, max US$60-ish). We're a solo-founder product — not a corporation with infinite resources.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced via email and in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that = you accept the new terms.

12. Governing law + jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of Thailand. Any dispute that can't be resolved by email first goes to Bangkok courts. EU/UK/CA users keep their statutory consumer protections.
